Full Review for Corel Video Studio Pro X3 - we actually use this product

We Love it - highly recommended.  We needed a productive editor when we found Adobe Elements Premiere 8 to be a dog and Corel VideoStudio Pro is it. (see our Adobe Elements 8 Review)

This Review also applies to Corel Video Studio Pro 12.  The functionality is similar but the performance and interface is improved in VideoStudio X3.

VideoStudio Pro  was purchased from Ulead in about 2008.  The product has been improved since.

Its a good consumer value, we recommend it.  This product is superior and much more user friendly than Adobe Premiere Elements

Note:  We received a remark from a registered user that there may be known compatibility issues with Core i7 and if is unfixed as of November 11, 2010.  Please do your research before you buy.

Things we LIKE about Corel VideoStudio X3 :

  • Trial version available and 30 day money back guarantee
  • It's powerful yet relatively simple interface is a breeze to use
  • We were able to produce our first video in less than 10 minutes without using Easy Edit
  • Full Edit mode is excellent and intuitive.
  • After a couple of hours of the using full edit, easy edit mode isn't needed any more
  • More Things we like in Corel Video Studio X4 Review Coming Soon
  • It is not Adobe Elements - price / performance is much better than Adobe

Things we DO NOT like about Corel Video Studio Pro X3 (VideoStudio 13):

  • Most of our displeasure is directed at the 'easy edit' mode - our overall opinion of the entire product is mostly positive
  • Video Studio Easy Edit mode is a mess.  It starts with a dumbed down interface that even the lowest level of computer user would find idiotic
  • Easy Edit has few optional settings
  • Easy Edit performance is disappointing (Full Edit mode performance is terrific)
  • Indexing of your media is slow, and finding folders and files in a large collection in Easy Edit seems hopeless
  • We've been doing digital imaging for 15 years and have over 100,000 images on our PC (not all of them in an indexed location)  - finding the one or 10 in Easy Edit mode is almost impossible
  • The VideoStudio Easy Edit Templates are limited to just a few - Corel Visual Studio 12 had more and better ones
  • The Corel VideoStudio 12 movie wizard was superior to Video Studio x13 "Easy Edit".  We hate that Corel changed it.
  • Corel VideoStudio X3 does not output .swf files (Adobe Shockwave format files - it does output Adobe flash .flv format)

Review of Corel Video Studio Pro X3 Also known as VideoStudio Pro 13

Highlights:

- We love it for its simplicity

- Video Studio 13 Easy Edit Mode is a mess to the point of almost being useless

- However, the full edit version is much more productive making the easy edit mode almost moot
